Industry thought leadership organizations all recognize the Secure Memory Card (SMC) as one of the 3 possible Security Element implementations for Mobility.

Mobey Forum reports “If SMC is selected as the SE (Security Element), there is no requirement for operator – bank cooperation at all and any of the stakeholders can operate by their own independently with SMC.”

NFC Forum recognizes Memory Card as one of 3 possible Security Element choices. The 3 secure element choices are: Secure Element Embedded in the Handset, SIM Card as the Secure Element, and Memory Card as the Secure Element.

Smart Card Alliance reports “With this [SMC] solution, an external memory card hosts a secure chip with a microcontroller and flash memory. This solution could allow any party to provide ‘memory’ cards with their applications.”
