About the role:

We’re seeking a hands-on QA Lead who will be responsible for establishing and maintaining quality standards across our products. You’ll lead a team of QA engineers, define testing strategies, and work closely with development teams to ensure we deliver high-quality software. This role requires a balance of technical expertise, leadership skills, and strategic thinking.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 4-6 QA engineers
  • Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development planning
  • Recruit, interview, and onboard new QA team members
  • Foster a culture of quality and continuous improvement

2. Strategic Planning & Process

  • Develop and implement comprehensive QA strategies and best practices
  • Define and track quality metrics and KPIs
  • Establish and optimize QA processes across the software development lifecycle
  • Drive test automation initiatives and framework development
  • Create and maintain QA documentation, including test plans and strategies

3. Technical Execution

  • Participate in hands-on testing activities when needed (approximately 30% of time)
  • Review and approve test plans, test cases, and automation scripts
  • Oversee test automation framework design and implementation
  • Ensure adequate test coverage across functional, performance, and security testing
  • Lead root cause analysis for critical defects

4. Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Product, Engineering, and DevOps teams to align on quality goals
  • Participate in sprint planning, retrospectives, and release planning
  • Communicate quality status and risks to stakeholders and leadership
  • Collaborate on CI/CD pipeline improvements and deployment strategies
  • Work with customer support to understand and address production issues

Required Qualifications:

1. Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in software quality assurance
  • 5+ years in a QA leadership or management role
  • Proven track record of building and scaling QA teams
  • Experience with both manual and automated testing methodologies

2. Technical Skills

  • Strong experience with test automation frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Cypress, Playwright)
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (Java, Python, JavaScript, etc.)
  • Experience with API testing tools (Postman, REST Assured)
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI, CircleCI)
  • Knowledge of test management tools (Jira, TestRail, Zephyr)
  • Understanding of performance testing tools (JMeter, LoadRunner)
  • Experience with version control systems (Git)

3. Methodologies & Practices

  • Deep understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies
  • Experience with test-driven development (TDD) and behavior-driven development (BDD)
  • Knowledge of different testing types: functional, regression, integration, performance, security
  • Understanding of DevOps practices and shift-left testing

4. Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • Experience in [specific industry – e.g., fintech, healthcare, e-commerce]
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP, Salesforce)

5. Nice to Have Qualifications

  • Knowledge of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Experience with mobile testing (iOS/Android)
  • Familiarity with accessibility testing standards (WCAG)

6. Soft Skills

  • Excellent leadership and people management skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities
  • Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
