Nymeo Federal Credit Union expands into Greater Baltimore.

Regulatory approval allows the Maryland credit union to serve new counties and pursue growth among households, businesses and local governments.

Maryland-based Nymeo Federal Credit Union has received federal approval to significantly expand its field of membership, a move that will bring the institution closer to the greater Baltimore region and mark the largest geographic growth in its history.

The National Credit Union Administration recently authorized the Frederick-based credit union to serve individuals and families across several additional counties in Maryland, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. The decision broadens Nymeo’s reach beyond its traditional base in Frederick and Montgomery counties and opens the door to new communities stretching east toward Baltimore.

Under the approval, people who live, work, worship, attend school, volunteer or conduct regular business in Franklin County in Pennsylvania; Berkeley, Jefferson and Morgan counties in West Virginia; and Washington, Carroll and Howard counties in Maryland are now eligible to join the credit union.

The inclusion of Howard and Carroll counties places Nymeo within the broader Baltimore metropolitan orbit, an area that could provide a larger population base and new opportunities for growth.

Nymeo, which was chartered in 1933, currently serves 20,850 members and manages about $409 million in assets. The credit union reported nearly $3 million in earnings in 2025, up from about $2 million the previous year, according to NCUA call report data.

The expansion reflects both the credit union’s financial position and its longer-term strategy to broaden its presence in the region. In addition to attracting new household members, Nymeo plans to pursue relationships with business clients and local governments as part of its growth plans.

“At our core, we’re committed to putting people first,” said Vicki Johnston, president and chief executive of Nymeo. “We focus on building lasting relationships, providing thoughtful guidance, and delivering financial solutions that truly meet the needs of the communities we serve. Our team is excited to welcome new members and become a trusted resource they can rely on for years to come.”

Credit union leaders say the expansion will allow Nymeo to bring its member-focused model to neighboring communities while maintaining its emphasis on relationship-driven service.

Newly eligible members will have access to the credit union’s full range of financial products and services. These include traditional savings and checking accounts, certificates and individual retirement accounts, as well as accounts designed for students. Lending offerings include auto, home and personal loans, along with credit cards.

Nymeo also emphasized its digital banking capabilities, including online and mobile banking platforms that offer tools such as mobile check deposit and budgeting features. Members can access services through community branches and a national network of more than 85,000 surcharge-free ATMs.

For the credit union, the regulatory approval represents both a milestone and a strategic step toward broader regional visibility.

By extending its eligibility footprint closer to Baltimore, Nymeo hopes to reach new members while strengthening its position as a community-focused financial institution serving the Mid-Atlantic region.
