OnPoint digs in to defend home turf in Portland

The $9.7 billion-asset OnPoint Community CU has signed a lease at 707 SW Washington Street in the heart of downtown Portland’s business district.

OnPoint Community, the largest credit union headquartered in Oregon, is doubling down on the Portland business district.

The $9.7 billion-asset credit union said this week that it has signed a lease in downtown Portland – its hometown. The site will house a new OnPoint branch with office space for the institution’s newly expanded commercial, nonprofit, and small business banking teams.

“Portland is our home. We were founded right here,” said Rob Stuart, president and CEO of OnPoint Community Credit Union, in a press release. “The expansion of our commercial and business lines into the downtown core is a strategic investment, underscoring our commitment to our members and community.”

The new OnPoint branch will support the nearly 40,000 commercial, nonprofit, and small business members throughout Oregon and southwest Washington.

The 17,000-square-foot space will undergo a redesign this year, with a goal of opening its doors sometime in the latter part of 2025. OnPoint currently operates 57 branches in Oregon and Washington.

“We are seeing more members in the business and nonprofit communities joining our membership. This new location will allow us to serve more of their needs through a robust, consultative approach to banking,” said Bob Harding, OnPoint Community’s  chief commercial officer.

The credit union said data show the confidence many business owners have in the downtown core turned the corner from 2023 to 2024, with signs pointing toward improved safety and more foot traffic.

OnPoint Community Credit Union’s membership is available to anyone who lives or works in one of 28 Oregon counties and two counties in Washington.

OnPoint has more than 603,000 members and earned roughly $124.7 million in 2024, an 8% increase compared to a year earlier, according to call report data from the National Credit Union Administration.

Last year’s merger between Advantis Credit Union and Rivermark Community Credit Union formed the second-largest credit union in Oregon.

“OnPoint’s expansion into the heart of downtown is a nod to its roots in this city, and an indicator of Portland’s steady progress. I look forward to seeing the positive impact OnPoint will have on its neighbors.”
