Armed robbers hit San Antonio credit union.

Police are searching for two masked suspects who fled with cash and customers’ belongings after a daytime robbery at a Security Service Federal Credit Union branch.

Two masked men armed with weapons robbed a Security Service Federal Credit Union branch on the city’s Northeast Side on Saturday morning, making off with a large amount of cash and several customers’ personal belongings before escaping in a sport utility vehicle, according to San Antonio police.

The robbery occurred shortly before 11 a.m. at the credit union’s branch in the 6900 block of North Loop 1604 East, near Rolling Oaks Mall, police said.

According to a preliminary report from the San Antonio Police Department, the two suspects entered the branch wearing masks and carrying weapons. Police did not specify the type of weapons used.

The men demanded money from a teller and also took wallets, purses and other personal belongings from several people inside the branch, San Antonio Police Department Public Information Officer Lizzandra Trevino said.

Authorities said the suspects fled with a “large amount” of cash, though investigators have not released an estimated dollar amount.

Financial habits are formed early, but most financial tools are designed for adults. As a result, families often rely on cash, shared cards, or disconnected apps to teach money management, making it difficult to balance independence with oversight.

At the same time, younger generations expect intuitive digital experiences, creating a gap between how they interact with money and how financial services are delivered. Financial institutions need age-appropriate solutions that engage younger account holders while supporting parents and caregivers.

The two men left the area in a silver SUV and remained at large as of Saturday afternoon. No injuries were reported during the robbery.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and asked anyone with information to contact the San Antonio Police Department.

The robbery targeted one of the nation’s larger credit unions.

Security Service Federal Credit Union, based in San Antonio, serves 741,871 members and holds approximately $14.2 billion in assets. The institution reported first-quarter 2026 earnings of $19.3 million, up from $14.3 million during the same period a year earlier, although its membership declined from 763,436 a year ago, according to NCUA call report data.

While robberies involving financial institutions continue to occur across the country, credit unions account for a relatively small share of such crimes. According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, there are typically between 124 and 126 credit union robberies nationwide each year. Credit unions represent roughly 8% of all financial institution robberies annually, with commercial banks accounting for the overwhelming majority of incidents.

Saturday’s robbery remains under investigation, and authorities have not announced any arrests or identified any suspects.
