New CEOs take the helm at Texas, Washington credit unions

Cheney FCU and Gulf Coast Educators FCU both welcomed new chief executives into the fold as the calendar flipped to 2025.

Gulf Coast Educators Federal Credit Union in Pasadena, Texas, has named Eric Stegall as its new president and CEO.

He replaces Linda Lukaszewski, who retired after 43 years with the $1.3 billion-asset credit union. In February 2005, the credit union announced Lukaszewski as its new CEO after Dan Cervenka retired.

Stegall has been Gulf Coast Educators FCU’s chief operations officer since 2011.

The credit union has 60,000 members and earned roughly $4.2 million through the third quarter of 2024, a 23% decrease compared to a year earlier, according to call report data from the National Credit Union Administration.

Also this week, Andrew Crosby has been named the new CEO of Cheney Federal Credit Union in Washington.

Crosby on Jan. 1 replaced longtime CEO JoAn Sanders, who retired at the end of 2024.

The $139 million-asset credit union said Crosby was most recently branch operations manager for $82 million-asset Spokane Firefighters Credit Union.

Prior to that, he spent nearly five years as a branch manager for Global Credit Union in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

Sanders was the credit union’s CEO for the past 30 years.

“The credit union has weathered the ups and downs of the economy, an everchanging regulatory environment, and events like Y2K and the Covid pandemic. I am proud to say that CFCU remained strong throughout all the challenges we have faced,” Sanders said in a post on the credit union’s website.

Crosby is originally from Downey, California, and has lived in Spokane for the last 17 years.

Cheney FCU has 6,500 members and earned roughly $351,000 through the third quarter of 2024, after losing $106,000 a year earlier, according to call report data from the NCUA.

“As I turn the page, I am excited for the next chapter for me personally and for the credit union. I am confident that CFCU will continue to thrive. Andrew, Lynn, the board of directors, and the rest of this fabulous team will see to that.”
