Oregonians’ CEO to retire, search begins for replacement

D. Hilton Associates has begun the search for the next leader at Oregonians Credit Union in Milwaukie after Sam Launius announced plans to retire.

Sam Launius, the President and CEO of Oregonians Credit Union, announced his plans to retire.

Launius has served the $341 million-asset organization for 32 years, including the last six as its chief executive.

He will officially step down from the Milwaukie, Oregon-based institution in December 2025.

“We are deeply grateful for Sam’s unwavering dedication during his leadership. While we will certainly miss him, we are thrilled for him as he embarks on this well-earned retirement. His impact on the credit union and the community will be felt for years to come,” said Board Chairperson Jeff Coffman in a press release.

The Oregonians board hired D. Hilton Associates to conduct a nationwide search for the company’s next president and CEO.

Throughout his tenure at Oregonians, Launius has been instrumental in driving technological growth while strengthening the credit union’s commitment to its members and the local community.

His leadership has fostered programs that enhance financial literacy, support small businesses, and elevate member services. His focus on innovation, sustainability, and outreach has positioned Oregonians Credit Union as a trusted and forward-thinking financial institution.

Prior to joining Oregonians, Launius served as the president and CEO of Mountain View Federal Credit Union in Gresham, Oregon, which was one of the three credit unions that merged to form Oregonians CU in 2005.

Membership at Oregonians Credit Union is open to anyone who lives or works in Benton, Clackamas, Columbia, Crook, Deschutes, Jefferson, Lane, Linn, Marion, Multnomah, Polk, Washington, or Yamhill counties.

Oregonians has nearly 19,000 members and earned roughly $2.5 million in 2024, an 11% decrease compared to a year earlier, according to call report data from the National Credit Union Administration.
