Massachusetts, Pennsylvania banks name first-ever female CEOs
Raichelle Kallery and Kate Bryant both recently took the helm of northeast banks after serving their respective institutions for decades.
The Savings Bank in Wakefield, Massachusetts, has named Raichelle Kallery as its new president and CEO.
The $834.3 million-asset bank said Kallery becomes the first female to lead the institution in its 155-year history. There are now just 22 female CEOs among the 128 banks in Massachusetts.
She succeeds Robert DiBella, who retired at the end of last year after working for the bank for 37 years.
Kallery joined the bank in 2006 and most recently served as its chief operating officer. Prior to joining The Savings Bank, Kallery worked in marketing for the $2.2 billion-asset Merrimack Valley Federal Credit Union in Lawrence.
“When looking back on the bank’s history, I am mindful of the position that I hold and the work of those that have come before me,” Kallery said in a press release.
The bank reported net income of $1.7 million for the year ending Sept. 30, according to S&P Global Market Intelligence data.
Earlier this month, The Honesdale National Bank in Pennsylvania announced that Kate Bryant has officially transitioned to her new role as the bank’s president and CEO.
Bryant became the $1 billion-asset bank’s first female president and CEO as the next step in her more than 20-year career with HNB. The appointment also makes Bryant the area’s first female bank president, the company said.
She replaces Thomas Sheridan, Jr., who retired after more than 40 years in banking.
“It’s not even that I am a woman, but if we think back to decades ago a woman wouldn’t have even been considered for this role, so to be not only considered, but chosen is such an honor and I’m really humbled by the opportunity,” Bryant said.
She previously worked as the bank’s chief financial officer for nearly nine years.
The bank reported net income of $12.6 million for the year ending Sept. 30.
